Michael Kelly

Michael was Vice-President Membership and Education for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development from 2006 -2011. As Vice-President he was a member of the Institute’s Council, a non-executive director of the CIPD Board and chaired its Membership and Education committee. Prior to becoming Vice-President, Michael was chair of the Institute’s Quality Assurance working-party and he has actively supported the development and delivery of the Institute’s Professional Standards for approaching 40 years, through a variety of regional and national roles. Currently he is a panel chair for the Institute’s Approval scheme

Until his retirement, Michael was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, Leeds Metropolitan University. In one of the UK’s largest business faculties with over 5000 students, 210 staff and a budget in excess of £20m; his specific responsibilities included academic development, quality assurance and human resource management. Prior to entering academic life, he had ten years industrial experience in sales and HR with the Pilkington Group.

He also has experience as a QAA academic reviewer and institutional auditor and was until recently a member of the Association of Business School’s Programmes committee.

Michael’s most recent research activity has focused on quality management in UK Business education as a lead contributor to the HEFCE funded QuBE research project on quality management in business schools.

Michael is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and is an Emeritus Fellow of Leeds Business School (now Leeds Beckett University).
