Kevin Green, Müller UK & Ireland

Müller, a dairy company with more than 32,000 employees across Europe, was facing inefficiencies and high maintenance costs with outdated printers, so when new Markem CimJet 2200 printers were introduced it was critical that staff be trained to use them efficiently.

Recognising the need, apprentice Kevin Green developed the The Cimjet 2200 Training Programme. Aligning with Müller's mission to ‘Unleash our People’, Green ensured the initiative focused on developing employees' skills and ensuring they could efficiently operate the new equipment, which meant the programme not only improved operational efficiency, but also contributed to employee satisfaction and growth.

He engaged with project sponsors, senior operators and health and safety advisers to gather insights and ensure the training programme met all requirements before implementing a pilot training session to validate the training materials and approach, making necessary adjustments based on feedback.

The Cimjet 2200 Training Programme was then delivered through a carefully planned, structured and comprehensive approach. Green developed a detailed project plan, including a gantt chart to manage timelines and workflow alongside existing obligations, and created standard operating procedures, risk assessments and training materials tailored to diverse learning needs. Hands-on training sessions were held on the factory floor, supported by theoretical sessions in quieter environments to ensure comprehensive understanding.

Ever since the rollout, there has been significant reductions in downtime and maintenance costs, improved operational efficiency and high trainee satisfaction. The PMAs judges said Green’s initiative “demonstrated exceptional breadth and depth, with the potential for global impact”.

“What stood out was Kevin’s focus on performance as the driver of learning – embedding a culture that allowed staff time and space to develop and sustain their skills. He approached the training practically and creatively, considering how to make materials accessible and useful long after the initial rollout,” they said, highlighting the inclusion of tools such as QR codes and handheld guidance cards as examples of a “deep understanding of how to embed knowledge in day-to-day work”.

They continued: “Kevin’s work went beyond a typical learning initiative – it enabled lasting behavioural change, encouraged ownership of learning and strengthened organisational performance. His people-centred, forward-thinking approach makes him a clear standout.”
